death is a long sleep is a short death

Thank you so much for coming and helping me out with this ritual. We'll be learning and singing this song together that I learned many years ago from two friends in Vancouver Robyn and Inessa and this is a gift to them.

The song is a round, which means that it's sung repeatedly and overlapping with each other and could go on forever, which it rarely does in human form, but can technically be done with the help of our computers. This round was written by Austrian composer Joseph Hayden in the late 1700.

What we'll be doing is warming up, practicing and then recording the song. The computer is going to help us make into a round.

I'm asking everyone to download the free app Dolby On as it is a quite forgiving recording app and it help me get better resolution files. Does everyone have the app downloaded? If so will you go to settings and enable lossless audio?

The first time this ritual was performed was on October 17, 2022 in the Dwight Chapel in New Haven, CT with the class Cybernetics of Desire lead by Melanie Hoff.

First up I have borrowed five exercises from Vocal Exercises For Beginners by Ian Castle - Aussie Vocal Coach to get us warmed up and used to making noise together.

Exercise 1

Exercise 2

Exercise 3

Exercise 4

Now that we are warmed up. Let's first have some water. Then, let's first listen to the whole song first, and then we'll sing along. My cousin Eva Marell has kindly recorded a reference for us to learn from. Feel free to sing in a pitch that works for you, your voice will be blended in with the others so it's won't be singled out. Let's sing!

Thank you again,
Sara Duell
